LONGING: To Be Mother

A Sacred Grief Ritual

A ceremonial gathering to honour the longing, the grief and the mystery of becoming a mother.

There is a longing that lives deep within many women. A longing to be mother.

Perhaps you have yet to meet your beloved. Perhaps you are trying to conceive and have experienced the heartbreak of unsuccessful attempts, fertility challenges or IVF. Perhaps you have experienced pregnancy loss, or find yourself facing the possibility that motherhood may not unfold as you had imagined.

This longing can reach into the very depths of your being. It can ache in your heart, your body, your blood and your bones.

It is a particular kind of grief: the grief of something that has not yet happened. Something deeply desired, yet unknown. Will it happen? Will it not? There are no certain answers, and living with that uncertainty can be profoundly painful.

And while you carry this longing, life around you continues. Friends and family members may be having babies. Conversations and well-meaning questions can touch a tender place. Sometimes you may feel unseen, isolated or unable to express the depth of what you are experiencing.

Perhaps you have been carrying this for years. Perhaps you no longer want to explain it, talk about it or make it easier for others to understand.

We want to create a space where you don't have to.

A space to honour the longing

Longing: To Be Mother has been created as a sacred and carefully held ritual for women carrying grief, longing and uncertainty around motherhood.

This is a space where your experience can be acknowledged without being fixed, explained away or met with well-meaning advice.

We will make room for the many layers of this longing: the personal dreams and desires, the ancestral threads carried through our bodies and the deeper creative force of life itself.

There is no expectation to be positive, to let go, to find acceptance or to arrive at a particular outcome.

Instead, we invite you to come exactly as you are.

To honour the ache in your heart as tenderly as you would honour its joy. To allow grief and beauty, hope and uncertainty, to exist alongside one another.

This is not about abandoning your longing. It is about finding a more compassionate relationship with yourself as you live with it.

The ritual

Together, we will move through a series of guided ceremonial experiences, creating space for reflection, expression, embodiment and connection.

The Red Thread: Ancestral Belonging

We will honour the generations of women who came before us: the mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers whose lives carried life forward. An opportunity to acknowledge the ancestral threads that connect us, while honouring the uniqueness of our own paths.

Veiled Keening: Giving Grief a Voice

Through music, sound and the symbolism of the veil, we will create a protected space for the expression of grief. A gentle invitation to give voice to what may have been held quietly for a long time.

Meeting the Longing: Somatic Embodiment

A guided exploration of how longing and grief are experienced in the body. We will gently make space for what is present, without trying to change it, and explore how we might meet ourselves with greater tenderness.

The Womb of Creation: Returning to Life

We will reconnect with the creative energy of the Earth and the living world: the continual movement of growth, transformation and renewal. An invitation to rest in the beauty of each moment, allowing the heart to hold both its longing and its capacity for joy.
